John Wayne Vester Sr.

John Wayne Vester Sr., 73, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Born on December 10, 1950, in Rocky Mount, NC, to the late Julian and Virginia Vester, John's journey in life led him from Rocky Mount to Atlantic Beach at the age of 17. He then returned to Rocky Mount for nearly three decades before settling back on the coast in Carteret County for over 43 years. In 1973, John met the love of his life, Carol, with whom he enjoyed over 50 beautiful years. 

A skilled handyman known for his ability to fix anything, John owned a successful painting business for close to two decades and also worked in construction. His passion for building and his creative mind were evident in everything he did.

Living on the coast was a perfect fit for John, where he loved being on the water boating, kayaking, and fishing. He kept active with bike riding, found entertainment in watching WWE Wrestling matches and was captivated by the excitement of Monster Truck events. His beloved companions FeFe the Poodle and Isis the cat were always by his side. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren when they were young.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carol Vester; daughter, Terra Rogers (Chris) of Elm City, NC; son, John Vester Jr. (Stephanie) of Havelock, NC; sister, Becky Sena (Chuck) of Reno, NV; brother, Bobby Vester of Battleboro, NC; grandchildren, Hannah Rogers, Mackenzie Rogers, and Gretchen Vester.

The family will celebrate his life privately.
