John Arthur Steward, Jr, 79, of The Villages, Florida, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019.
His memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Hendersonville, NC (111 N. Washington St., Hendersonville, NC 28739). Military Honors will be presented at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513).
Mr. Steward was born May 6, 1940 in Baltimore, MD to John Arthur, Sr and Ann Gist (Sykes) Steward. He was a Vietnam Veteran and retired as a Major and the head of Base Security in the U.S. Marine Corps. John was a graduate in the 100th class of the FBI Academy, the NIS Academy and CID.
John moved to The Villages, FL in 2006, from Dunnellon, FL. He is a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Leesburg, VFW in Leesburg, Marine Corp League in Leesburg and the Gideons International in Leesburg. He was very active in church and loved being with his family, traveling, camping and golfing.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joan of the home; children, Carol Ann (Dale) Holder of Newport, NC, Randolph Eugene (Jeanna) Brightwell of Nashville, TN, Margaret Marie (Robert) Sprott of Hahira, GA, Deborah Ann (Mike) Smith of Lawrenceburg, TN, John Arthur (Amy) Steward, III of Indian Trail, NC, Robert James Steward of Bushnell, FL; stepchildren, Carla (Picton) Warlow and Carl H. Owens, Jr; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nephew, James "Jimmy" Robert Steward, Jr.; and niece, Diane Steward.
John was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Mary Charlotte Steward; brother, James Robert Steward; and sister, Maryann Marino.
