John T. Overton

John T. Overton, 46, of Harkers Island, NC (formerly Raleigh and Durham) passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023.

John was a 1995 graduate of Cresset Christian Academy in Durham. He then attended Campbell University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. John was a singer with a beautiful baritone voice. John sang in choirs and played piano throughout his life and found solace in music of all genres. He was a former member of Saint Francis Catholic Church in Raleigh where he sang in the choir and was active in the LGBTQ+ ministry. He was also a former member of TGMC (Triangle Gay Men's Chorus).

John worked in the IT and payroll departments at Cleggs Pest Control in Durham, where he was employed for 23 years.

John is survived by his husband, Jonathan Gillikin of Harkers Island; mother, Charlotte Overton of Durham; mother-in-law, Janet Gillikin of Harkers Island; aunts, Rosa Westbrook of Durham, and Foy Harrell of Person County; and many cousins in the Durham and Creedmoor areas of NC and the state of Arkansas.
