John McGlamery, 85, of Morehead City, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Carteret Landing.

John was born in Statesville on June 24,1936, to the late Challie and Carrie McGlamery. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1959. After graduating with a degree in Dairy Science, he began his career with the N.C. Department of Agriculture as a Dairy Inspector, before becoming the Food and Drug Administrator for the N.C. Department of Agriculture.

He loved fishing, working in the yard, and traveling. His greatest pleasures in life were being a devoted husband and son, and caretaker for his mother and wife until they passed away. The other greatest pleasure was when he hit the winning home run when N.C. State played against the N.C. Tarheels. He loved supporting his kids and helping others in need. He was minimalistic in life, loved his grandchildren, and he was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord.

John is survived by his daughter, Margaret King and husband Glenn of Fuquay Varina; son, John “Skip” McGlamery, Jr. and wife Ginger of Garner; sister, Jean Elder of Gaffney, SC; grandchildren, Kayla Butler and husband Brandon of Charleston, IL, Kody McGlamery of Morehead City, and Abigail McGlamery of Garner; great-grandchildren, Isabella Garcia and Maddie Butler; and his beloved cat, Pyewackett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha McGlamery.
