John Joseph Filan

John Joseph Filan, Sr., 85 years old, of Pine Knoll Shores, passed into eternal life on Easter Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Carolina East Medical Center.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Madeleine Grady Filan. He was the loving father of 8 children: Sr. Mary Margaret, John Joseph, Jr. (deceased), Deborah Fusello, Margaret Kruse, Cynthia Filan-Kim, Catherine McEnery, Madeleine Hugel, Stephen John Joseph; 16 grandchildren,& 15 great-grandchildren.
John, son of John Aloysius and Catherine Mundweiler Filan, was born and raised in Newark, NJ, with his brothers, Victor, William, Ronald, & sisters, Dorothy, Patricia, Martha, Catherine, and Eileen.
John proudly served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged. He earned a M.B.A. in Finance from Rutgers University and was a State of New Jersey Certified Public Accountant. He worked in public accounting, worked as an internal auditor for the Department of Commerce, and served in the General Accounting Office’s Civil & International Division.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5th at St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City, NC, and burial at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.
