He was born in Medford, MA on June 21, 1941, the son of Helen Jane MacDougall and John Everett Elliott.
The eldest of five children, he grew up enjoying trains, mischief and friends in his home neighborhood. He graduated from Wilmington High School in Wilmington, MA in 1960 and was interested in moving to sunny California. He married his first wife, Sylvia Elliott in 1964 and they enjoyed living across the United States including locations in California, South Dakota, Maine and North Carolina. They had two sons, John Timothy and Michael Robert. In 2013, Jack met and married Rosie Lee Minton in Havelock, NC. Jack and Rosie enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends around the United States. Their adventures included trips to Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, California, South Dakota, Wyoming, Arizona and Tennessee, often in a recreational vehicle.
Jack had a variety of careers including a long-haul truck driver in Carlsbad, CA, animal feed store owner in Hill City, SD, and as civil support at a submarine and fighter jet naval base in Portsmouth, NH (Portsmouth Shipyard) and Havelock, NC (Cherry Point Naval Base). At different parts in his life he had hobbies including horses, horse carriages, fixing neighbors’ lawnmowers, fishing and boating with friends on the coasts of NH and NC. He was interested in wildlife and raised chickens as pets, tried his hand at beekeeping and enjoyed hanging lizards from his ears. He was a long-standing member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. After retirement, Jack started a small business repairing alternators and starters before he found great enjoyment in recycling appliances, motors, and other metal parts at the scrap metal yard. When his grandson Lars Timothy was born, Jack enjoyed his new role as Grandpa Jack, and was very proud of Lars when he was driving his remote control cars all over the lawn and beach.
