John "JW" William Allen

John “JW” William Allen, 85, of Fairfield, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.

Born on October 28, 1939, in Johnston County, North Carolina, JW was the son of the late Thomas and Ruth Allen of Pine Level, North Carolina. After high school, he went to work at the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia. He furthered his education at Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton, Virginia, in the field of electrical engineering. He spent his career as an engineer and maintenance supervisor in various industrial plants after leaving the Shipyard.

JW had a deep passion for fishing and gardening, which he enjoyed sharing with his friends over the years. He lived the last 23 years of his life at Lake Mattamuskeet in Hyde County, where he fished daily as long as he was able. He also enjoyed volunteering in the community and helping friends and neighbors.

He is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Dwayne) Batten of Morehead City, and Jacquelyn (Jonathan “JD”) Markland of Kinston; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

There will be a private celebration of life for JW. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to celebrate him are asked to donate to a charity of your choice.
