Joan Melville Taylor

Joan Melville Taylor, 90, of the Adams Creek community of Havelock died Sunday, December 7, 2014.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Adams Creek with the Rev. Kelli Sorg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was born and raised in England where she met her husband, Hunter Taylor, during World War II. She married Hunter in 1944 and then moved to Adams Creek, NC. Joan was a loving wife and mother of three children, and grandmother of seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Council, United Methodist Women, and many other areas in the church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda T. Smith and husband Louis and Paula T. Woolridge of Adams Creek; one son, Terence G. "Terry" Taylor and wife Helen of Adams Creek; seven grandchildren, Kelly Baum and husband Shane, Travis Smith, Marie Riley and husband George, Lynn Carter and husband Ben, Ashley Fox and husband Andy, Jason Woolridge, and Lindsey Woolridge; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Chism, Maddie Fox, Ella Fox, and Brooks Carter.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Taylor and infant son, Thomas Hunter Taylor.

The family will accept visitors from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC and other times at the home of Terry and Helen Taylor.

Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, memorial may be made be made to Disabled American Veterans at PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or Oak Grove United Methodist Church VBS Fund 3070 Adams Creek Rd. Havelock, NC 28532.
