Joan Ann Brown
October 10, 1930 — October 18, 2017
Joan Ann Brown, 87, of Pine Knoll Shores, took her flight to the heavenly realms Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington.
A Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at St Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City.
A brilliant and grace filled, a good friend to many and a loving mother of six, grandmother of nine and great grandmother to four. She enjoyed them all and they loved her!
Born October 10, 1930 to Catherine and Pearce Driscoll, Joan was the eldest of four siblings. Tom and Catherine preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Brown, her sister Regina, daughter Marge Brown, sons, George (Judy), Jerry (Patti), John (Bonnie), Michael (Trish) Brown. Her daughter Susan preceded her in death.
Valedictorian of her 1948 graduating high school class, Joan was a lifelong learner and avid reader. She worked in marketing and insurance before starting a successful real estate company BROWN & LEWIS where she was broker and an agent.
Joan volunteered with her husband George serving Meals on Wheels and for over twenty years collecting and reporting PKS rainfall for the local weather station. She was a Dominican Lay person prior to becoming a Franciscan and she loved her Franciscan friends.
Joan was a member of: St Egbert’s Bible Study and Women’s Guild, PKS Women’s Club and Garden Club. Joan participated in a monthly-Book discussion Club and was an excellent Bridge player.
Joan died peacefully of natural causes with family members at her side.
Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joan’s name to St Egbert’s Catholic Church, 1706 Evans St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
