Jimmie A. Mills

Jimmie A. Mills, 75, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, April 16­, 2019, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, at the Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport, officiated by Larry L. Maddox.

Jimmie retired from civil service at Cherry Point after 36 years of faithful employment. He honorably served our country in the United States Army for 3 years, as well the United States Coast Guard Reserves for 20  years. He enjoyed being a member of the Moose Lodge in Newport. In Jimmie’s younger years he was a great basketball player and was the star of his high school basketball team.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mills of the home; daughter, Loraine J. Maddox and husband Heath of Newport; step-sons, Wayne H. Linkes of London, KY, Gregory K. Piner of Newport, Christopher T. Piner of Newport and Michael D. Piner of Newport; sisters, Jo Ann Cottle of Swansboro, Judy Norris and husband Buddy of Newport; and grandchildren, Hayden A. Maddox and Morgan E. Maddox.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Margaret Mills; sisters, Evangeline Murdoch, Gerry Styron and Wanda Mizelle; and brothers, Carroll Mills and Victor Mills.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Munden Funeral Home.
