Interment will follow at Cedar Island Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 29th at Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church.
John was born on October 16, 1963, in Sea Level, North Carolina, to the late Jimmie and Ellen Goodwin. John had a deep connection to Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church and cherished his involvement there throughout his life.
Known for his love of the salt life, John spent his life on the water as a seasoned commercial fisherman and graduate of Core Sound. He spent many hours sharing tales of the sea and memories with his fellow fishing buddies. An avid hunter, he eagerly anticipated duck season each year when he served as a duck guide. An enthusiast of good food, Jimmie always appreciated a delicious meal.
Above all else, John treasured his family dearly; he was a family man to the core. John adored his wife, loved his boys fiercely, and was protective of their son Samuel. His grandbaby melted his heart and she had him wrapped around his finger, which was reflected in her nickname “The Boss”.
Jimmie was a beloved member of the Down East community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Rebecca B. Goodwin of the home; sons, Scott Goodwin (Ashlyn) of Davis, NC, and Samuel Goodwin of the home; sisters, Mary Goodwin (Nora Adams) of Wilmington, NC and Betty Smith (Bryon) of Jacksonville, NC; granddaughter, Mackenzie Goodwin; niece, Noel Goodwin; nephews, Garrett Smith and Nathan Smith (Allie); and great nephew, Hudson Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cedar Island Community Cemetery Fund or Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
