Jewel Orton Nelson

Jewel Orton Nelson, 85, of Emerald Isle, died peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Crystal Coast Hospice House.

The service will be Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Munden Funeral Home and Crematory in Morehead City. Visitation will follow the service.

She moved to Emerald Isle from Goldsboro in 1985 where she was welcome with open arms by many people in Emerald Isle. They too became her extended family. She was loved by all her neighbors, Beth, Phyllis, Ed, Kevin, and many others. She joined many groups in the area such Needle Pushers and her Sunday school class, she loved being a part of these groups.

Jewel was a member of the Swansboro United Methodist Church. She loved to entertain her friends and family at her home in Emerald Isle. Jewel was an avid card player. Jewel loved to tell everyone about her grandsons.

She is survived by her son, Captain Steve Hardy and wife Jennifer of Naples, Florida and her cherished grandsons, Gary Steven and Walker Louis Hardy who are currently serving the United States Navy. Jewel is also survived by her childhood friends, Barney Kornegay, and Jenny Lou Dees.

Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, Garry and Beulah Orton and her lifelong friend, Vickie Kornegary. She outlived all of her siblings. She was well loved and will be missed.
