Jerry Robert "JR" Merrill Jr.

Jerry Robert “JR” Merrill Jr., 43, of Beaufort, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Carteret Health Care.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2021, at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. James Chadwick. Friends are welcome to attend the service. In keeping with the CDC guidelines pertaining to the Coronavirus, those who are ill or at-risk (elderly, immune-compromised) are encouraged to stay home. Help us honor the family while practicing safe measures. Friends are also encouraged to leave words of comfort to the family through the website.

JR was born on April 13, 1977, in Sumter, South Carolina. He was quite athletic and during his high school years he enjoyed playing various sports. He loved the outdoors, whether he was working on the water or enjoying the thrill of hunting. He rarely missed watching NASCAR races which were always a highlight for him. If you spent time with JR then you also knew his dog Duke who was extremely special to him. JR loved the Lord and attended Reece’s Chapel Baptist Church in Mill Creek.

He is survived by his mother, Reva Styron and husband Rex of Cedar Island; father, Jerry Robert Merrill and wife Tracey of Robersonville; and brother, Jeremy Merrill of Robersonville.

JR was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Larry and Patricia Norlin and Irvin and Cora Willis; maternal grandfather, Leo Wheeler; and paternal grandparents, Ben and Ruth Merrill.

The family will receive friends following the service at the family home of Lynn Lewis at 704 Old Deer Trail, Newport, NC 28570.
