Jennie Mae Cannon Slocomb, 82, of Newport, North Carolina, gained her angel wings on Friday, January 5, 2024.
Jennie was born on February 28, 1941, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Leon and Verna Cannon. Their family later moved to Carteret County where Jennie grew up working hard on the family farm in Beaufort.
On February 26, 1960, Jennie married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Slocomb, in New Bern. Together, they built a life of love and laughter. While Jennie held various jobs over the years, her most cherished job was that of homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She happily dedicated her time and efforts to her family and her caring nature and warm heart made her a mother figure to many.
Jennie's vivacious personality drew people to her and made her the life of every gathering. Whether hosting family events or participating in community activities, she had the ability to bring people together and make everyone feel at home. Jennie will be fondly remembered as a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Tina Davis (Dennis) of New Bern, and Jeannie Reynolds (Rodney) of Newport; sister, Nellie Crostic of New Bern; brother, Billy Cannon (Janie) of Beaufort; 8 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Slocomb; daughter, Sherry Marino; sister, Irma Peterson; and brothers, Douglas Cannon, Joel Cannon, and Benjamin Cannon.
