Jean Willett, 89, of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Carteret Health Care.
Her funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Atlantic United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Colenda officiating. Interment will follow at Atlantic Community Cemetery.
She was a member of Atlantic United Methodist Church since 1945, past president of United Methodist Women, and Mary Morris Circle, she taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School superintendent, and she sang in the church choir throughout her life.
She was a volunteer at Taylor Extended Care, and she and her husband volunteered to cook for several community events including barbecues and oyster roasts. She loved the VFW, playing bingo, games and enjoyed hosting many canasta parties. She loved sports, especially basketball and softball which she played in high school. She worked as a news correspondent for the Carteret County News Times.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Smith and husband Stephen of Atlantic; son-in-law, Michael Fulcher of Atlantic; grandchildren, Sherri Fulcher Guthrie and husband Kelly, Ginny Willis and husband Marty, and Mike Fulcher, Jr. and wife Leigh; great-grandchildren, Charles Michael Fuchs and wife Lindsey, Patricia Hayden Fulcher, Mandi Aliene Willis, Martin Bryson Willis, Alexan Boyd Fulcher, and Tinley Reagan Guthrie; great-great-grandchild, Charlotte Paige Fuchs; and step-grandchild, Dylan Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Willett; daughter, Phyllis Fulcher; parents, Ralph and Aliene Nelson; brother, Edward Bernard Nelson; granddaughter, Patricia Aliene Smith.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Atlantic United Methodist Church.
