Jean Murdoch Smith, 74, of Crab Point, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 at Cherry Point Bay Nursing Home.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Robbie Phillips. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Jean was born and raised in Wildwood, NC as a rambunctious and determined young girl that played basketball for Newport High School. She was fun loving and a big fan of the UNC Tarheels and NASCAR. She especially loved living on Bogue Sound where she was the owner and operator of Bogue Sound Seafood on Atlantic Beach. She was also a loving wife and mother that especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Dottie Burt-Price and husband Jeff, of Crab Point, NC and Janet Smith Fortenbery and fiancé, Chris Bridges, of King’s Mountain, NC; step-daughters, Bonnie Beard of Canton, NC, Connie Easter of Mill Creek; one step-son, Edward Smith and wife, Karen, of Newport. Also survived by sisters, Bertha Mason Barnes of Newport and Gloria Murdoch Riggs and husband, Leslie Sr., of Newport; and a brother, Clyde David Murdoch of Newport; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Cauley and husband, Jamie; grandsons, Ryan Godby and Evan Long; step-grandchildren, Allen Smith, Pat and Wayne Willis, and Mike, Todd and Stephanie Beard; great-grandchildren, Addison Grace and Kensington; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Smith of 27 years; father, Amasa W. Murdoch; and mother, Myrtle Adams Murdoch. She was also preceded by brothers, Manley Earl Mason and William “Buster” Murdoch.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
