Janice Kathryn Lutz Lee

December 19, 1936 — January 28, 2018

Janice Kathryn Lutz Lee, age 81, of Morehead City, NC passed away on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 in Newport, NC.

Her funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Havelock with Rev. William Boykin officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park, Hwy 24, Newport.

She was born in Cleveland County, NC on Dec. 19, 1936 to Irvin Ambrose Lutz and Nancy Pearl Laughridge Lutz.  In 1941, the family moved to Cherry Point/Havelock, NC and remained there for the rest of their lives.  Her parents are buried in Havelock behind the First United Methodist Church.

Jan was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Havelock.  During her lifetime, she was involved with Brownie Scouts, taught Sunday School, was Chairman of Craven County’s Democratic Party, held a term as President of the PTA for Havelock Elementary School, and served as a member of the Craven County ABC board, among other local activities.  She worked as a real estate broker and fire and casualty insurance agent at Crocker Insurance and Realty in Havelock, a business she and her husband owned and operated for many years.

After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling to Paris, London, Scotland, and Wales, as sightseeing and travel was something they always appreciated.  Cruises to Bermuda and trips to Las Vegas, Florida, and Nashville provided great memories, but, the family particularly enjoyed the beautiful NC mountains and gemstone mining.

Jan valued her relationship with God and her family most, but no dog, bird, or other pet ever had a more loving and affectionate caretaker.  She adored animals and was a frequent contributor to pet rescue organizations. Jan was a talented artist and creative with crafts and gardening.

Jan wanted it shared that her last words were...“she loved her family deeply.”

She is survived by her children, Mary Kurek and husband John of Atlantic Beach, son, Bryant Lee and wife Stormy of New Bern, and son Robert Lee and wife Cindy of Havelock.

She leaves behind grandchildren Carey Gillenwater and wife Neek of Hamlet, NC, Janice “Jana” Rosenberger and husband Cory of Hellertown, PA, Ashley Holder and husband Phil of James City, NC, and Thomas Kurek and wife Joy of Morehead City, NC.  Her great grandchildren are Nelson Holder of James City, NC, Bella and Cayden Gillenwater of Hamlet, NC., J.D., Victoria Marie, and Mary Lynn Kurek of Morehead City, and Gracie Burroughs of Olean, NY.

Janice “Jan” was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Norman Bryant Lee, Jr, and was also preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Canipe and Grace Coyle, as well as a brother, Charles “Buddy” Lutz.

The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 am prior to the service at the church.
