Janice Lupton Clontz, 68, of Pine Knoll Shores, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
A funeral service honoring her life was held at the First Methodist Church of Morehead City on Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024, officiated by Reverend E. Powell Osteen, Jr. followed by a brief private family interment and then the receiving of friends in the church fellowship hall.
Janice was born on September 28, 1955, in Pantego, NC to the late Howard R. and Frances W. Lupton. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Morehead City where they lived for the remainder of her life. Growing up in Carteret County, Janice was blessed with a beautiful life. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Clontz, Jr. "Charlie". They were blessed with a daughter, Sarah Kate, who, along with her husband Wade Donald Willis III "Trey" and their son, Wyatt, all became the greatest joy of their lives.
Janice graduated from West Carteret High School and received her BS degree from East Carolina University in early childhood education. Following graduation, she became a kindergarten teacher with the Carteret County Public School System where she taught kindergarten for thirty-three years. Janice adored children and loved teaching. She often commented that “she’d never worked a day in her life.” Even in retirement you could find Janice volunteering at the Morehead City Primary School and was often seen decorating bulletin boards or helping with crafts.
Janice enjoyed hobbies like gardening and going to the beach, but her most treasured times were spent in the fellowship of her family and friends. She had a large circle of supportive friends and made many wonderful memories with each of them. Her family was everything to her and she always made everyone feel so special, cared for and loved.
Along with her husband and daughter and her family, Janice is survived by her brothers, Charles Lupton, Michael Lupton (Hope) and Warren Lupton (Kristin); niece, Carlyn Cottrell (Scott); nephews, Hunter Lupton (Brooke), Lee Lupton, Howard Lupton, Griffin Lupton and Dawson Lupton; great nephew, Finn Lupton; great nieces, Molly Scott Cottrell, Saylor Cottrell and McKinley Lupton, all of whom she loved very dearly.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Lynn Lupton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Methodist Church for the Early Learning Center, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or to the Carteret Health Care Cancer Center, 3500 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
