Janette "Jan" Ruth Weese Poling

Janette "Jan" Ruth Weese Poling, 84, of the Adams Creek Community in Havelock since 1977, departed this life on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A memorial service to honor Jan's life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, November 24th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by Chaplain Rick Brooks. The family will receive friends one hour prior. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home's website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.

Jan was born October 6, 1939, in Elkins, West Virginia, the only daughter of the late Leo Bert Weese and Edna L. Stevenson Weese. She attended schools in Spruce, WV and Elkins, WV and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1956 where she was awarded the outstanding business student award.

On April 12, 1958, in Elkins, WV, she married Lawrence "Larry" D. Poling. They enjoyed many happy years travelling in their fifth wheel recreational vehicle throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. They were blessed with 65 wonderful years together.

Jan worked in the administrative field for 39 years at the Naval Aviation Depot in Cherry Point, NC. She retired as an Administrative Officer in April 1995.

Jan was a life-long member of the Leading Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Montrose, WV and spearheaded fund-raising campaigns for their cemetery fund. Jan was also longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Adams Creek Road in Havelock, NC where she attended for many years with her family.

One of her great joys was in 1983, when she became known as "MiMi" to her only grandchild. This name lovingly carried on throughout the years to a host of other young adults. Jan will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Larry Poling; one daughter, Tammy Poling Mills and husband Grover of New Bern, NC; one son, Monty Dale Poling and wife Heather Watkins of Beaufort, NC; one brother, Leo Dewayne Weese of Elkins, WV; and one granddaughter, April Marie Whedbee and husband Brandon of Concord, NC; two great grandsons, Anderson and Crosby; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Wanda Moats Weese.
