Jane Bowen Cayton

Jane Bowen Cayton, 63, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Carteret Health Care.
A celebration of Jane's life will take place at a later date.

Jane Ellen was born on February 12, 1960, to the late Radford and Kathleen Bowen. The fifth child and the only daughter, she learned from a very young age how to love and care for those around her, even when having four older brothers made it tough. 

Shortly after graduating from West Carteret High School, she got married and in November of 1979 she found her greatest joy in life, being "Mom" to a daughter, Melissa Jane Cayton. While Melissa was still in preschool, Jane earned her CNA and began what would become her life's work in-home end-of-life care. For over 40 years, she lovingly cared for those who could no longer care for themselves. Her genuine kindness and unshakable compassion were only surpassed by her commitment to helping every one of her patients navigate their hardest days with dignity and within their own homes. Her ability to help their loved ones through the toughest days formed a bond that remains, no matter how much time has passed. Through her work, she impacted countless lives and became a beloved member of many families who are undeniably saddened by her passing. 

She leaves behind an enduring impact through the work of those she mentored throughout the years. Her legacy is those she inspired to pursue home care as their own life's work, including the one she was most proud of, her daughter, Lissa. 
Jane is survived by her daughter, Lissa, and her loving dog, Delta Dawn, of the home. She is also survived by her brother and sidekick, Jeff Bowen, and brothers, David Bowen Sr., Carl Bowen, and Greg Bowen and wife Debbie. Along with nieces and nephews, David "Davy" Bowen Jr., Michelle Bowen Smith and husband Don, Greta Bowen Davis, Lee Bowen, Sabrina Bowen, Amanda Oakley Hibbs and husband Matt along with their family, Amanda Garner Wright and husband Tim and their family, and Jenny Weeks Reynolds and husband DJ; great-nieces and great-nephews; and her favorite traveling buddies, Brooke Davis and Austin Davis, Devin Smith and family, Aprille Weeks and wife Erin Burgit, Regan Tell, Jayden Smith Viel and husband Tio, Timothy Barrett Bowen, Tanner Reynolds and family, Chloe Reynolds, and Landon Reynolds.

Jane was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Edna Player Bowen; parents, Radford and Kitty Bowen; and her nephew, Timothy Scott "Timmy" Bowen.
