James "Jimmy" Ray Garner

James Ray "Jimmy" Garner, 67, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 Friday evening at Munden Funeral Home.

Jimmy was a veteran of the US Army where he worked as a communication's specialist in Korea, and he worked at Cherry Point for 38 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping, boating, fishing, and clamming.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Mary Ann Garner of the home; two sons Kevin Ray Garner of Newport, and Brian Paul Garner and wife Emily of Newport; one brother Terry Garner and wife Georgia of Newport; two sister in-laws Jean Garner of Havelock, and Nancy Garner of Ridgeway, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Margaret Garner, a sister Lillian Wynn, and three brothers Neal Garner, Jerry Garner, and Thomas Garner.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the UNC Cancer Hospital at 101 Manning Dr. Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
