James "Jim" B. McGaughey

James “Jim” B. McGaughey, 64, of Havelock, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at his home.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Coastal Carolina Veterans’ Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC. There will be a Celebration of Life held at 4:00 pm Monday, August 13, 2018 at the VFW in Havelock.

Jim was born and lived in Seymour ,TX until he joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He honorably served as an aviation ordnance technician for 22 years including two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his military career he met and married Kathy and they had their two children before his retirement in 1994. He would later have a second career with the civil service specializing in explosives safety until his retirement in 2015 from MCAS Cherry Point. He was a member of the VFW Post 7315 in Havelock, NC and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather that will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy Lynn McGaughey, of the home; son, James Merrill McGaughey and wife, Kerry, of Havelock; daughter, Regina Kay Patience and husband, Matthew, of San Diego, CA; sister, Kay Lynn Styles and husband, Rick of Bronte, TX; and grandchildren, Collin James Patience, Meghan Leigh McGaughey and James Shaw McGaughey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie McGaughey and Dorothy Bishop McFall; maternal grandparents, Mildred and Cy Bishop; and paternal grandparents, Audra and J.H. McGaughey.
