James R. White, 84, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his home.
A memorial service will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Morehead City, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard and Rev. Darrell Williams.
Jim attended the Citadel and the Institute of Government and served in the US Air Force before joining the NC Highway Patrol. He retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles Law Enforcement section. He was an AKC licensed dog judge from 1971 until his retirement and judged in the US and many countries around the world. He judged Westminster Kennel Club and The Eukanuba National Show. He served on the trial board of the AKC. He was a life member of the Basset Hound Club of America, the Greater Hickory Kennel Club and the Furniture City Kennel Club. He and his wife bred and showed basset hounds and Smooth Fox Terriers for many years. He was a Master Mason and a member of Ocean Lodge 405. He was a member of the NC Highway Patrol Retirees Association and the NCDMV Retirees Association.
Jim was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Lighthouse Sunday School Class and the Tuesday morning prayer breakfast group that meet at Cox’s restaurant. Jim and his wife would like to express their deepest appreciation to his Sunday School Class and other friends at church for their support during the time of his illness.
Jim was born in Winston Salem July 16, 1933. He was the son of Harry Russell White and Beatrice White Royster. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Aman White of the home; daughters, Karen White Doody and husband, Mike of Morehead City, Cindy White Yount and husband, Steve of Morehead City; granddaughter, Sara Thompson and husband, Trey of Suffolk, VA; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Alex and Cora of Suffolk, VA; half-sister, Pat Snow of Winston Salem; brother-in-law, Wallace Aman and wife, Barbara of Roanoke Rapids.
To Dr. Loynes and the staff at the Raab Cancer Center and to his physical therapists we send a special thank you. We could not have had better treatment.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Morehead City.
