James Gwenn Skinner

James “Jimmy” Gwenn Skinner, 75, of Newport, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Carteret Health Care.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Pastor Bill Hooper and Pastor Paul Loftin, followed by interment at Graham Memorial Cemetery.

Jimmy served his country in the United States Coast Guard and retired after 20 years of service as a BMC; he also worked for the United States Post office, retiring after 17 years.  He adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his Boston Terriers and his sweets.  He was fond of nature, loved gardening and the Newport River.  He was an active member of Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a Deacon and Secretary Treasurer.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Anne of the home; four daughters, Norma Lou Skinner and significant other Dawson Haddock, Julie Anne Schlaeger and husband Mark, Joanne Michelle Skinner and wife Wendy Fulcher, and Annemarie Skinner; son, David James Skinner and wife Heidi; four grandchildren, Jamie Skinner, Jessica Lindquist, Jeremy Skinner and Joey Schlaeger; and five great-grandchildren, Peyton Lindquist, Carter Lindquist, Hunter Skinner, Gunner Skinner and Jackson Skinner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Leta Graham Skinner; sister, Norma Lou; and brothers, Kenneth, Vernon, and his twin, Johnny.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the church building fund, Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3448 Mill Creek Road, Newport, NC 28570.
