James "Jimmy Dean" Salter

James "Jimmy Dean” Salter, 65, formerly of Broad Creek, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at his home in Newport Beach, California.

A graveside service to honor Jimmy Dean's life will be held at 3 p.m. , Friday, July 5th at Broad Creek Community Cemetery. 

Jimmy Dean was born on May 9, 1959, in Morehead City, NC, to the late James and Geneva Salter. To know him was a blessing. He was unapologetically himself. Jimmy Dean was a man who always went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and loved. As a member of the LGTBQ community, he knew how it felt to be someone who wasn't always treated well and never let anyone feel that in his presence. His love of life and laughter was infectious. There was never a dull moment around him, and the world is a much dimmer place without him.

Jimmy Dean loved his friends and family fiercely and he will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched, including his life partner, Gari Lott of the home; sisters, Betsy Linfoot of Rocklin, CA, and Jamie Edwards (Robert) of Otway, NC; and numerous extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Salter and Portia Evon Salter Stonestreet; brother, Sherman Salter; and his cuddly cats, Tipper and Bently.
