James Walker Piner, 84, of Atlantic Beach, NC, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by the Rev. Sunny Limm. Burial will follow at Victoria Cemetery on Star Church Road in Marshallberg and a reception will follow at Trinity Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
He was born August 22, 1933, to Edwin Thomas Piner and Georgia Moore Piner in Beaufort, North Carolina. He was a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Business Administration.
Jim was raised in Marshallberg and a was member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved being on the waters of Carteret County. He served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in 1985 from the State of North Carolina. After moving to Atlantic Beach, he became a commercial fisherman as he always wanted to be.
James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Mitchell Piner, of the home and three children, Karen Piner Campbell of Marshallberg, Gayle Piner Karasinski and husband Steve of Morehead City and Barry Walker Piner and wife Stefanie of Raleigh, NC. Five grandchildren: Seaton Piner Karasinski, Ian Piner Karasinski, MacLain Hall Campbell, Walker Price and Ella Katherine Piner. His late brother, Edwin Thomas Piner II and wife, Rosalie of Beaufort and their children: Joanne Piner Duncan and husband Tommy, Edwin Thomas Piner III and wife Cathy of Marshallberg, Gregory Carl Piner and wife Danielle of Raleigh and Marshallberg and James Phillip Piner of Marshallberg. Extended grandchildren: Hailey Duncan, James Piner Duncan and wife Sierra, Kristin Piner, Trent Piner and Jackson Gregory Piner.
One brother-in-law, James Jackson Mitchell and wife Barbara of Panama City, Florida, sisters-in-law, Margaret Mitchell and the late John Wagner of Morehead City. Anna Laurah Mitchell and the late Richard Harris, Collie Mitchell and the late Gerald Smith Mitchell. Special friends, Hope Williams, Robert Powell and Dorothy Mitchell. In addition to all his grandchildren, Jim was also delighted in the adventures and accomplishments of Walker Whitley, Justin Hudson, Jonathan Bersuder and Edward Bersuder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Georgia Moore Piner, brother, Edwin Thomas Piner II and sister, Annie Moore Piner and special childhood friend, Billy Neal.
