James “Jim” R. Perkins, 73, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on January 22, 2025.
Born on June 8, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jim was the beloved son of the late James R. Perkins and Margaret (Singley) Perkins.
Jim lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the Army, where he proudly served his country. After his military service, he worked as a crane operator at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Pennsylvania, later transitioning to Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) in North Carolina. It was during this time that Jim made North Carolina his home, settling in Havelock before retiring in Newport.
Jim had a passion for the outdoors and music. Whether he was fishing, boating, bowling, or playing his guitar, he found joy in simple pleasures and was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. A devoted father and family man, Jim’s legacy is one of kindness, hard work, and unwavering support for those closest to him.
Jim is survived by his wife of 14 years, Chris Perkins of Newport, NC; his daughter, Amanda Teel, and her husband, Jason Teel, and their children, Ian and Jackson, all of Peoria, Arizona; and his sister, Paulette Fitcher of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his late wives, Debra Perkins and Theresa Perkins.
Jim’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His strength, humor, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held by his family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim’s honor to a charity of your choice or a Veterans’ Organization.
