James Calhoun Parnell, Jr.

James Calhoun Parnell, Jr., 80, of Otway, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Carteret Health Care.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. William O’Neal and Rev. Robbie Parnell. Interment will follow, with military honors, at the Gillikin Family Cemetery in Otway.

James served as a Deacon at Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church and his love for the Lord was evident to those who knew him. He honorably served as Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard for 21 years and later enjoyed his work as a commercial fisherman. James also worked in the maintenance department at Taylors Hospital, as well as working for the security department at Aviation Fuel Terminal.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Faye Parnell of the home; daughters, Jodie Parnell Willis and husband, John, of Otway, Melodie Dawn Parnell of Otway; son, James Calhoun Parnell, III and wife, Doris Ann, of Otway, Kery Wayne  Parnell and wife, Lynne, of Williston; sister, Judy Welch of Turbeville, SC; brothers, Robert Parnell and wife, Miriam, of Kingstree, SC, Marion Parnell of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Willis, John “Buddy” Willis, Jason Dudley, Sheila Lupton; great-grandchildren, Emmalyn Kate Willis, Aaron Lupton, Ashton Lupton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Daisy Parnell; sister, Bonnie Faye Parnell; brothers, Joe Parnell, David Parnell, Rev. Dudley Parnell, Johnny Parnell; and aunt, Annie Burrows.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church.
