James Patrick Murphy, Sr.

James Patrick Murphy, Sr., 83, of Newport, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Crystal Coast Hospice House surrounded by family.
A private service will be held at a later date.
James retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He managed the VFW Post # 8126 over 10 years. He was an avid reader, coin collector, and golfer. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by three daughters, Valeria Murphy and husband Brian Geller of Newport, Christina Murphy Guthrie and husband Chad Guthrie of Harkers Island, and Patricia Philman and husband Greg Philman of Newport; son, James Patrick Murphy, Jr., and wife Michelle Murphy of Newport; two sisters, Cora Murphy and Beatrice Murphy Grossman; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Valeria Murphy; and three brothers, Ronald, Reginald, and Richard.
