James Becton Edgerton, 86, of Morehead City, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Carteret General Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Frese officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
James was a veteran of the Korean war, he retired from civil service employment at Cherry Point, and he was a brother of Freemasonry in the Ocean Lodge of Morehead City. He had a passion for making CD's, videos, and writing stories for his grandchildren, and he enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and listening to classical music.
He is survived by his wife Frances Pittman Edgerton of Morehead City; daughter Mary Anne Floyd of Morehead City, and Jo Anne Harrell and husband Paul of Jacksonville, NC; a son James Becton Edgerton, Jr. and wife Cynthia of Maryland; three grandchildren Alex, Melissa, and Patrick; three sisters Mattie Gray, Bessie Tucker, and Velma Holland; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Delbert Edgerton, and Charles Edgerton, and one sister Margaret Morris.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
