James Aaron Blackburn

James Aaron Blackburn, 79, of Newport, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at his home.

His graveside service will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. James Chadwick.

James honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for 9 years, 9 months and 23 days. He worked as a civil servant at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point for over 25 years. He was the past Master of the Ocean Masonic Lodge in Morehead City. He loved solving puzzles with his wife and protecting his prized pecan trees from squirrels. James was a devoted daddy, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jean of the home; daughters, Joyce Scheibler and husband, Paul of Greenville, Jana Nicole Evanger and husband, Sam of Cibolo, TX; brother, Dean Blackburn and wife, Bonnie; grandchildren, Jonathan Scott Scheibler and wife, Allison, Shelby James Evanger, Kendra Suzanne Evanger; great grandchildren, Levi Aaron Scheibler and Oliver Thomas Scheibler.

He was preceded in death by parents, John and Ola Blackburn; sisters, Juanita Vestal, Othelia Mercer, Donnie Jane Blevins, Vandeline “Doris” Couch, Mary Ellen Tucker; brothers, Arvil Blackburn, Sam Blackburn, J.V. Blackburn, Jack Blackburn, Howard Blackburn; nephew, Jimmy Blackburn.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City.
