Jack Franklin Gibson Sr., 84, of Morehead City, beloved father, grandfather and friend to many, died Thursday August 18, 2011 at his residence with his devoted dog Maggie by his side. His family enjoyed spending time with him days prior to his death.
His memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church located in Atlantic Beach.
Jack was born November 22, 1926 in Burlington, N.C. to the late Charles Gibson and Grady E. Clapp. Jack graduated from Elon College in 1952 and retired from a long career with Western Electric, working for the company in the accounting division in both Greensboro and Saudi Arabia. He enjoyed extensive travel during this time overseas. Jack was an active member at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church. He was involved in many church activities and church committees. He continued his accounting career up to the day he died offering his services to several local businesses. In recent years, he enjoyed spending most of his time with his children and grandchildren. He served honorably in the United States Navy as a naval rescue swimmer.
Jack's kind spirit, devotion to his family and joyful sense of humor will be remembered by all and cherished by those who loved him most. He was a shining example for his children and grandchildren to aspire to.
Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth and his son, Jack Gibson Jr..
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Gibson of Conyers, Georgia and Cheryl Gibson Cundiff and husband, Gary of Greensboro, North Carolina, son John Gibson and wife Kristin of Carolina Beach, North Carolina. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brendan Creegan, Jeannie Caldwell, Tracey Caldwell, Kirra Gibson, Riley Gibson, Nora Watkins and a great grandson, Gavin Creegan. He will be missed by his beloved dog Maggie.
