Iris Penny, 64, of Beaufort, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Duke Regional Hospital.
A funeral service will at 2 pm, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City with Rev. Darryl Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Beaufort. The family will accept guests at 1 pm, prior to the services, on Saturday.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm, Friday, January 27, 2017, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
Iris, affectionately known as MeMaw, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, caretaker and confidante. Iris worked a lengthy career at Hardee's of Beaufort before transitioning into her true love of childcare. She fulfilled her dream and successfully operated her own daycare business. Iris loved taking care of children and never turned any away.
Iris is survived by her husband Jimmy, sons, Micky Penny of Morehead City, Jeremy Penny and wife Alicia of Durham, Jeffrey Penny and wife Laura of Newport, Alex Penny of the home, Chris Penny of Morehead City, and Mark Shockley of Alabama; daughters, Crystal Penny Applegate and husband Zachary of Beaufort and Rene’ Shockley of Arkansas; seventeen grandchildren: Nathaniel, Ethan, Tara, Shea, Zachary, Frankie Jo, Lindsay, Hailey, Jacob, Gabrielle, Lucas, Addison, Bailey, Sydney, Draven, Ashley, and Harper; sister, Dorothy Jackson LeMaster of Indianapolis; brother, Gilbert (Rolly) Jackson and wife, Judith Winkler of Durham; and sister in law, Mary Anne Jackson of Burgaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Sheila (Pake) Jackson; and brother, Robert Everett Jackson.
