Ida Lourene Lewis

Ida Coats Lewis, 90, of Smithfield, Morehead City and Harkers Island, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 in  her home.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Harkers Island with Bishop B.L. Marcom officiating. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery.

Ida was born in Johnston County, Smithfield, NC on September 27, 1927 to the late parents, James Malcolm and Carra Belle Wallace Coats. Ida spent most of her years living on Harkers Island.

She is survived by two brothers, Don Coats of South River and Ray Coats and wife Nancy of Beaufort; two grandchildren, Erik Alan Lewis and wife Elizabeth Plautz Lewis of Morehead City and granddaughter Allison Leigh Lewis Struyk and husband Russell Struyk of Beaufort; seven great-grandchildren, Amelia, Charlotte, Clark, Tabitha, and Janine Lewis, and Brandon and Avery Struyk; one niece, Donna Coats of New Bern; four nephews, Mike, Tony, Ken and Chris Coats; daughter-in-law, Virginia Piner

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Arlen Lewis; her son, James “Al” Alonza Lewis; brother, James Bolden Coats; and sister, Arah Lee Coats.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.
