Hugh “Red” Taylor, 57, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

Family and friends are invited to a casual memorial visitation at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC, on Sunday, November 6, 2016, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Red lived his life as a legacy of God. He was a really big rock in a pretty small pond, and his musical perspective was beyond unique as he was always generous in the ongoing musical conversation. He was never stingy nor selfish when it came to his advice and wisdom towards music. He was always full of the Holy Spirit and a blessing to many. He was a true gift from God for everyone who knew him while he touched many lives throughout his time here on earth. He will truly be missed by all.

He is survived by his special friend, Betty Damron of Newport, NC; daughter, Mary Grace Taylor of Benson, NC; son, Christopher “Chris” Taylor of Newport, NC; sister, Sandra Taylor of Harlowe, NC; nieces, Melissa Perritt and Allison Ballard and husband Jason; great nephew, Tyler Ballard; and a great niece, Juliet Ballard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Mary Louise Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Homecare & Hospice in Swansboro, PO Box 245, Swansboro, NC 28584.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Kittrell Auto Parts in Morehead City, and to the many churches and other auto parts stores that gave donations and held fundraisers for Red; Mrs. Donna with Community Homecare & Hospice; and also to everyone who has loved, supported, prayed for, and visited Red throughout his battle.
