Hugh David Horrell, Sr.

Hugh David Horrell, Sr., 85, of Newport, NC died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at his residence.

Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Mr. Horrell served as a past chaplain for Gideons. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church where he served as a  deacon and choir member. He was a brick mason and taught bricklaying at the community college.

Mr. Horrell is survived by his wife, Eleanor W. Horrell of the home; two sons, Hugh David Horrell, Jr., and wife, Georgia of Beaufort and Howard Michael Horrell and wife, Patricia of Newport; two daughters, Sylvia Horrell Douthit and husband, Paul of New Bern and Peggy Ann Horrell of Newport; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and sister, Doris Horrell of Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy Horrell of Burgaw, Daniel Horrell, Raymond Horrell, Tom Horrell and Samuel Horrell; and sisters, Thelma Horrell Blanton and Lola Horrell.

The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the charity of the one's choice.
