Hugh Aderholt, 92, of Morehead City, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard. Inurnment will follow.

Hugh lived most of his life in Monroe, NC, then moved to Morehead City after he retired from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry. He was born March 8,1925, in Cherryville, NC to late parents Claude A. Aderholt and Minnie Helms Aderholt. Hugh joined the US Army during World War II, on his eighteenth birthday, telling his friends that he wanted to "fight the Germans". He was captured in 1944 during the Battle of Cassino in Italy and was a prisoner of war for fifteen months. He was truly one of the last of the "Greatest Generation".

He is survived by his sons, Hugh “Mick” Michael Aderholt of Monroe, Ronnie Aderholt and wife Georgia of New Bern; stepdaughter, Judy Peralez of Monroe; sister, Jeanette Starns of Indian Trail; grandsons, Ryan Aderholt of New Bern, Sean Aderholt of Sneed's Ferry, NC; great grandchildren, Taylor Young of St. Louis, MO, Reagan Aderholt of New Bern; Hugh had a wonderful and loving companion of nearly ten years, Peggy Smith of Morehead City.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Minnie Florence Aderholt; ex-wife, Dorothy Aderholt.
