Howard Allen Hewitt, 77, of Newport, NC died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at WakeMed Hospital in Cary, NC.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 19th at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Gurganus officiating. Interment to follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery.
Howard was born in Burgaw, NC and grew up in Maple Hill, NC with his parents and siblings. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1963 and served 40 years in Civil Service working in Avionics at Cherry Point. He was a devoted and loving husband of 54 years, father, "Papa," and friend.
Howard is survived by son Stephen Patrick Hewitt and daughter-in-law Trudy Leigh Hewitt of Cary NC; one grandchild Caitlin Leigh Hewitt of Cary NC; sisters Deloris Hewitt Heath of Tampa FL, Margaret Hewitt Murray of Wilmington NC, Evelyn Hewitt Melton of Wilmington NC; brother David Hewitt of Plymouth NC; half sister Nancy Huffman Zawodny of Suffolk VA; step sister Natalie Huffman Moore of Newport NC; and step brother Gene Huffman of Annandale VA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kay Slaughter Hewitt, son Mark Allen Hewitt, parents Howard Rhodes Hewitt and Nina Hewitt Huffman, and sisters Rebecca Hewitt Harris and Mary Hewitt Martin.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Friday, April 19th at Munden Funeral Home.
