Horace Luzell Carawan

Horace L. Carawan, 83, of Newport, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Crystal Bluffs.
Receiving of friends will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Munden Funeral Home.
Horace served in the US Navy, was the owner and operator of Electric Sales and Services of Goldsboro, and later ran Beachside Appliance Service in Atlantic Beach. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he came in contact with. He loved being outdoors, tinkering in the yard, and was the master of improvising.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Judy Carawan of the home; three children Terrie Reich of Durham, Christy Hewlett and husband Tim of Winston-Salem, and Mike Carawan and wife Lynn of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren Dan Carawan, Domenica Bramble, Carolyn Mitchell and husband Nik, Faith Hewlett, and Carson Hewlett; three great granddaughters Emmy and Maura Mitchell, and Scarlett Carrillo; a sister Frances Edwards of Simpson, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Mattie Carawan, three sisters, and one brother.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 930-B Wellness Dr. Greenville, NC 27834.
