Msgt. Hobart “Al” Allen Courtney, USMC, Retired, 76, of Havelock, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020, at Carolina East Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Havelock. Friends are welcome to attend the service. For those unable to attend, the family invites you to view the webcasting of the service through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. In keeping with the CDC guidelines pertaining to the Coronavirus, those who are ill or at-risk (elderly, immune-compromised) are encouraged to stay home. Additionally, there will be a limit to the number of people in the building at one time, as well, those who attend will be asked to bring and wear a protective mask. Help us honor the family while practicing safe measures. Friends are also encouraged to leave words of comfort to the family through the website.
Al served in the United States Marine Corps for 28 years as a Supply Officer in the military. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Michele “Seashell” Knighten Courtney of the home; daughter, Macey Knighten of New Bern; son, Jacob Todd Ryals of Havelock; sister, Linda Courtney Graves of Kentucky; brothers, Phillip Courtney and Danny Courtney and wife Nan, all of Kentucky; and grandchildren, Jayden Daily, Ravion Briscoe, and BellaDonna Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Carter; parents, Harold and Cora Courtney; brother-in-law, Lloyd Graves; sister-in-law, Joanne Courtney; and granddaughter, Robin Carter.
