Herbert Wray Sheets, 60, of Morehead City, NC ascended to heaven Sunday morning, August 5, 2012 after a long illness. Wray was a beloved husband and father and always gave of himself to help others. His charm, charisma and whit will be missed by all who knew him.
Wray was born on November 5, 1951 in Danville, VA to the late Herbert H. Sheets and Hazel Parker Sheets who preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Munden Funeral Home.
Wray began his career with Carolina Power & Light/Progress Energy in 1972 as an Accountant and advanced to be Executive Assistant to the Vice President. In 1977 he pursued a career with Westmorland Coal Co as President of Marketing and continued in the coal industry until he retired in 2006 as President of Crystal Coal Co.
Wray was a gifted musician, avid golfer and deeply loved his family. He remained close to all his 1969 high school classmates of Garner High School. After High School he attended Campbell University.
He is survived by wife Kathy Gail Sheets of NC-DOT/Ferry Division, three sons: Justin Dale Sheets, Nicholas Wray Sheets and Patrick Anthony Sheets. He has one grandson, Jordan Wray Sheets of Swansboro, NC. One surviving brother: Tony Jay Sheets, wife Pamela Sheets with two children, Janna Sheets and Jay Sheets. He is survived by father-in-law Walter Lowe, mother-in-law Kay Lowe, brother-in-law John Lowe and sister-in-law Karen Nicholson of Jacksonville, NC. Wray dearly loved his mother-in-law.
The family would like to thank the staff of Carteret General Hospital and Carteret Home Health for all the loving care during Wray's illness.
Visitation with the family is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
