Helen Virginia (Simpson) Williams

Helen Simpson Williams, of Newport, born December 7, 1930, passed away on Monday, April 28.
Visitation will begin at noon. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Riverdale United Methodist Church in New Bern, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Rusty Willis. Grave site services will follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
Helen was a long term dedicated member of Riverdale United Methodist Church; where she served, for many years, as choir director, pianist, and later organist. She loved her church and her music. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Nancy Williams Lupton and husband Donnie of New Bern and two sons, Leon F Williams III and wife, Marianne of Lawrenceville, VA and Gary Lee Williams and wife Anita of Newport, NC. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert Cuthrell and wife Anne of Forest City, Henry Simpson and wife Frieda of Fayetteville, John Simpson and wife Shirley of Indian Trail, sister in law Mary Simpson of Charlotte and two sisters, Janice Spruill and Elizabeth Brown. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Cindy McCausley, a very special friend and caregiver to both Helen and her husband for a number of years, had become like another member of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; Leon F. Williams Jr and brother Valin Simpson.
In Lieu of flowers donations should be given to Riverdale United Methodist Church at 5195 Highway 70 E. New Bern, NC 28560, Broad and Gales Creek Volunteer Fire and EMS at 3010 Highway 24 Newport, NC 28570, or Township 7 Fire 4530 Old Cherry Point Rd. New Bern, NC 28560.
