Helen Best Jones, 88, of Morehead City, NC, died Monday, August 9, 2010, at Carteret General Hospital.
Services will be held 11:00 am Friday at the First Presbyterian Chuch with Rev. Tim Havlicek officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Mrs. Jones was born March 3, 1922, in Duplin County, NC to the late George Simon and Ada Marsh Best. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Ashley Michelle Guthrie. She taught in St. Paul, Durham, Wilmington, and Clinton as a public school music teacher. She was the co-owner and co-director of Camp Morehead from 1959 to 1995, until she and her husband developed the property which is known as The Village at Camp Morehead. She was also awarded the honor of being inducted into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Jim Hunt.
She is survived by her husband Purcell Jones; son Jonathan Purcell Jones of Garner, NC; daughter Helen Best Davis of Morehead City, NC; grandchild Preston Joel Davis; grandson-in-law Jason Guthrie, and great-granddaughter Ellie Guthrie.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home.
