Helen Pappas Emerson

Helen Pappas Emerson, 90, of Havelock, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at her home.

A memorial service will be held 10am, Wednesday, July 20th, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Havelock.

Helen was born on January 19, 1932, in Bronx, New York, to the late Michael and Reine Pappas. Many knew Helen through her position as a loan officer for First Citizens Bank for over 30 years. Helping others was a theme of Helen’s life. Teaching Chess Club to the elementary and middle school students at Tucker Creek and Annunciation Catholic School was something she did with joy and determination to challenge their young minds. Grandbuddies was an organization she participated in where she would read books to elementary children.

With great creative and musical talent, Helen co-founded A Touch of Class Art Show, where they showcased local artists. Music was another passion of Helen, she played the organ beautifully and shared this gift with congregations at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, Annunciation Catholic Church along with many others. The community of Havelock will remember her fondly as the Havelock Community Choir and Havelock Community Band Director which she did happily directed over 30 years. Helen was also extremely involved in the Civitans where she served as their past president.

Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 73 years, Robert Emerson III; loving children, Patricia, Robert and wife Lola, and Michael and wife Becky; grandchildren, Reine and husband Will, Robert, Clarissa, Benjamin and Brycie; and great grandchildren, Penelope, Marina, Roxanna, Aubrey, Jace, Gabriel and Riley.
