Haskell "Hank" Lane

April 13, 1931 — October 14, 2011

Haskell "Hank" Lane, 80, of Newport, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 14, 2011. He passed peacefully in his sleep at his home.

Services will be held 2:00pm Monday October 17, at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Conner officiating.

Hank was born on April 13, 1931 in Loco, OK to the late Margaret and Clifford Lane.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Joyce D. Lane: three daughters Cynthia L. Starnes and husband Jerry of Newport, Donna L. Burd and husband Al of Newport, Barbara L. Range and husband Jay of Hubert: six grandchildren Lindsay Williford and husband Jeremiah of Morehead City, Eric Wells of Bel Air MD, Laura Wilson and husband Phillip of New Bern, Andrew Wells of New Bern, Mark Starnes and Carli Starnes of Newport: one sister Betty Powers and husband Shelby of Indio, CA.

He was preceded in death by sister Jean Lepard and brother Bill Lane.

Hank was a member of the USMC where he served faithfully for twenty years. Serving his country in Korea and Vietnam. Hank retired October 31, 1969 with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

Hank was a long standing member of Holly Springs FWB Church. There he served the Lord and church faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Usher. Hank was a loving husband, father, and grandfather (Papaw). His family was his life.

A visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Sunday October 16, at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church.
