Harry McClure Hoggard

February 21, 1931 — February 17, 1931

Harry McClure Hoggard, 80, of Raleigh and Atlantic Beach, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Carteret General Hospital.

Mr. Hoggard was the son of the late Robert W. Hoggard and Dorothy Duty Hoggard. He was born in Wilson, moved to Raleigh and attended Hugh Morrison High School, where he sang in a quartet with neighbor buddies and also with several big name bands. He attended North Carolina State University and served with Special Forces stationed at Fort Bragg.

His nickname was Happy Hogart, for his quick wit, and his capability to make everyone laugh, even strangers. He and his wife JoAnne had just retired to Atlantic Beach. He loved to work in his garden.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 am Saturday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Hoggard of the home; son, Harry M. "Chip" Hoggard, Jr. and wife Cathy of Angier; and grandchildren, Brock and Blake Hoggard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hoggard.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
