Harold William "Billy" VanPelt

Harold William “Billy” VanPelt, 76, of Atlantic, N.C., passed away Tuesday, December 11­, 2018, at Carteret Health Care.

The family will have a private service in New York at a later date.

Billy loved, lived and worked as a commercial fisherman his entire life. When he wasn’t on the water, he enjoyed spending time with his family and pets, and he enjoyed doing yardwork. Billy always loved our country and proudly served in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Holly Van Pelt, of the home; daughters, Holly Kockler and husband, Bill, of Elizabeth, NC, Sally Winship and husband, Perry, of Little Valley, NY and Elizabeth Sawyer and husband, Skeeter, of Manteo, NC; sons, Wiley VanPelt and wife, Ashley, of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Jonathan VanPelt of Rockford, IL; sister, Harriet VanPelt Urlaub and husband, Dennis, of Las Vegas NV; and grandchildren, Alex Kockler, Angie VanPelt and Alexa VanPelt.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold William VanPelt; mother, Estelle Minden VanPelt; and sister, Marita VanPelt Abramovitz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Carteret County Humane Society at 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570.
