Harold Lewis

Harold G. Lewis of Naples, Florida, formerly of Bethesda, Maryland and Kent Island on the Chesapeake Bay, died on September 1, 2010. He would have been 88 on September 21st.

The family will receive friends 11:00am to 12:00pm Friday at Munden Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Bayview Cemetery.

Born in Morehead City, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Julius and Nellie (Gaskins) Lewis. Harold joined the United States Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific and attaining the rank of Lieutenant.

Mr. Lewis received his B. A. degree in Architectural Engineering from North Carolina State University. He went on to earn his Master?s Degree in Engineering Administration at George Washington University.

He had a distinguished career as civilian employee of the Department of the Navy. He retired as senior executive with 36 years service and received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. After retiring, Harold was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and is a past President of the State Chapter of Maryland. Following the death of his wife of 55 years, Lois Sheeler Lewis in 2001, Mr. Lewis moved to Naples to be close to his son.

He is survived by his son, Harvey and wife Margo Lewis; granddaughter, Nancy and husband Brian Sportelli, all of Naples, sister Hazel and brother Reginald of Morehead City and brother Robert of Cary, NC. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Harvey Lewis, II; two sisters, Inez and Florence, and brother Earl.
