Gwendolyn Whitehurst Morning

Gwendolyn Whitehurst Morning, 91, of Beaufort, passed away Tuesday, July 3­, 2018, at her home.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Ann Street United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Taylor Mills. Interment will follow at Oceanview Cemetery.

Gwendolyn was an active and longtime member of Ann Street United Methodist. She enjoyed singing in the choir for over 40 years, as well as teaching Sunday School and being one of the former Sunday School Superintendents. Among her other church interests was the United Methodist Women’s group where she served as president for 5 years. Gwendolyn was also a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter, Bessie Ruth Kelly of Washington state; sons, William “Billy” Morning of Newport and Christopher “Chris” Morning of Havelock; grandchildren, Coston Lynn Daughtery, Tracey Alan Smith, Heather Dubbels and William Matteson; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude B. Morning; daughter, Claudia McLaughlin; parents, Roosevelt and Irene Whitehurst; sisters, Betty Whitehurst, Lydia Lee Thompson, Ann Bethel, Ruth Bortz, Nancy Knox, Teddy Clough; and grandson, Russell Sutcliff

Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Ann Street United Methodist Church.
