Guy V. Tucker, Jr.

July 17, 1927 — January 5, 2019

Morehead City

Guy V. Tucker, Jr., 91, of Morehead City, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Brookdale Assisted Living.

His memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Munden Funeral Home, with Rev. Robbie Phillips officiating. He will be buried at a later date at St. David’s Cemetery in Cheraw, SC.

Guy was born on July 17, 1927 to the late Guy Van Tucker, Sr. and Bernice Tedder Tucker. He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II, joining when he was just 17 years old.

Guy had, what he described as, one of the world’s best wife, Jean Reece Tucker, and during their life together they traveled all over the United States. He enjoyed his show horses, boating, fishing and hunting. He loved flying and spent over 2,500 hours in the air as a private pilot.

He knew people all over the 4 states, mainly through his connections as a successful large farm owner. He raised cattle and Shetland Ponies and loved all his farm help whom he often spoke fondly of. His farm help believed in him, and this allowed him to have more time to do the things he enjoyed. He had a full life and did things “his way”.

He loved Morehead City and Down East. He and Karen Willis Amspacher were the best of friends and she helped him get to know many of the Down East families. Guy truly enjoyed the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center and their Directors.

He loved small country churches and helped them in any way he could. He loved to help friends when their luck was down, and he was generous to them when he helped.

His doctors weren’t just doctors to him, they were his friends. All of Dr. Rickabaugh’s office girls were special to him and always made his day when he saw them.

Guy is survived by his sister, Hazel King and her two sons, Dr. Merritt King, III and Dr. Sam King and their families.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Jean Tucker; parents Guy and Bernice Tucker; twin sister, Glenn Margaret Tucker; who died at the age of 4; and sister, Louise Tucker.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Munden Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Guy’s memory to the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center at P.O. Box 556, Harkers Island, NC 28531.
